About Caroline

I’m a graduate of the College of Charleston and the Eastern Chapter chair for the Society of American Travel Writers. My first book, This Is My South: The Essential Travel Guide to the Southern States, was published by Globe Pequot Press in 2018.

My career started in college when I interned for the alt-weekly Charleston City Paper. Between that job and communications classes, I decided to change direction. I started a travel blog that I later leveraged into a portfolio for future writing jobs.

My story for BBC Travel,  “A Beer with Healing Powers,” was included in the SATW Lowell Thomas award-winning National Parks anniversary section. My story for Roads and Kingdoms, “A Political Truce Over Fried Chicken Biscuits,” was listed as one of “Our Favorite Roads & Kingdoms Food Stories.” My book also won an SATW Foundation Lowell Thomas award in 2019 for best guidebook, as did my website. I’m also a fellow at the Hambidge Center and Eastern Chapter Chair of the Society of American Travel Writers.

My travel website, This Is My South, is devoted entirely to traveling in the southern USA, including attractions, accommodations, and restaurants. It was recognized by Southern Living as a blog to follow in 2015Caroline in the City documents personal travels with millennial-focused topics.

The stories I love writing are the ones that change perceptions about a person, place, or thing that you think you already know. If you’re interested in working with me, get in touch.
